Time for Integrity
Two wrongs don't make a right Goodale's lack of understanding of the proper thing to do in the middle of the last campaign was the final nail in the liberal's lost. If he had resigned and waited to be cleared it would have shown integrity rather than reinforcing the public perception of liberal's right of entitlement that was at the heart of the lack of trust in our party. It was also Goodale's waffling on the income trust that led to the decisive action by the conservatives that make them look like they can make hard decisions on behalf of Canada. We now have a waffling former finance minister supporting a former NDP Premier who could not control his budget. We need a leader loyal to his principles with honesty and integrity to lead a united party and a untied Canada . .

Ignatieff Succeeds in Opening Old Wounds
Ignatieff's campaign gaff about Quebec as a nation was a bit like a man-of-war jelly fish. It got floated out there looks good and then one of those long tentacles has stung us. The Bloc's motion to embarrass the Liberals on the run up to the convention forced Mr Harper to respond. Harper's response was the right thing to do. Further Harper acted correctly in consulting with the other parties around the wording. calling on the expertise of Mr Dion as part of the process and then clearly outlining the context of Quebec as a Nation within Canada. I believe the passing of the motion to recognize Quebec as a Nation will have a life of its own. The ramifications for our Canada will be unpredictable. Ignatieff's campaign comments have moved from tearing the Liberal party apart to tearing the unity of our Canada apart. Where will this man-of-war sting us next and will that be a fatal sting?

Ontario Abandons the Environment
I have become more and more disenchanted with the Government of Ontario's environmental record. This summer they announced they were going to move the forest cut line north into the area of the endanger Woodland Caribou. At the same time we hear other countries are increasing their reforestationprogrammes. Canada has not participate in the study whish means here in Ontario we continues to clear cut large tracts of virgin forest. Where is Ontario's sustainable forest plan? On another issue the Government is going to allow an increase in the amount of phosphorous that can be put into Lake Simcoe. This is a fresh water system that is already stressed by the amount of urban development around it. Now today there is talk of keeping the coal fire power generation stations open longer. It seems to me this government is not serious about protecting our environment.

The Fun Starts with the Second Ballot
The EKOS poll published last week it shows that Dion has the growth potential to gain the momentum with the number who favour him as their second choice. This would be good for a United Party and a United Canada.

Surprise Right Decision
I must say I was surprised by Flaherty's announcement yesterday. This was a decision decision that should have been made by the last government rather than their dithering. We need to have a level playing field in our taxation system. I believe the proposals for seniors will be beneficial as the system switches over for those dependent on the dividends as a source of income. I am not a fan of the Conservatives but this time they were right to act quickly and decisively.
